We are here to assess your child’s communication and listen to your concerns.

We are assessing your child's speech, not you. Please don't be nervous, or in anyway concerned about their behaviour. We want to see their personality and start to build a relationship. At the beginning of the assessment we chat to your child to get to know them a little and talk them through the process.

On the day

It's helpful if you can make sure your child has eaten recently, so hunger doesn't distract them. For telehealth assessments, make sure you have your technology set up in advance, and where possible that you're using a room that is separate from other family members to minimise disruptions and distractions. We recommend having a water bottle handy and planning to be at the computer ready for your assessment a few minutes before your appointment time.

These assessments can bring up a lot of emotions for parents and carers. If you're able to we suggest you give yourself some space afterwards e.g., a break from work or a debrief with a friend.

WordUp Speech 2022

In the spirit of reconciliation WordUp Speech acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
